Laos: Private Company Spends over 80 billion kip to Build Small-Scale Dam

The local company Namtalarn Power has spent over than 80 billion kip (over
US$9.7 million) for the construction of a small-scale hydropower dam in
Namtalarn Village, Luang Namtha district and Province.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held in Sin-Oudom village of Luang Namtha
Province on Nov 28 in the presence of Vice Governor of Luang Namtha
Province Mr Bounyee Keokhounmueng, Deputy Director of Electricite du Laos
(EDL) Mr Bounmar Manyvong, and representatives of the relevant sector.

A five- megawatt dam representing a total investment of US$10.5 million
(over 84 billion kip) will be built along the border between Luang Namtha
and Namor districts, Luang Namtha Province, according to Director of the
Namtalarn Power, Mr Khamphoui Xayphachanh.

Upon completion in 2019, the five- megawatt dam will be able to generate
about 18.8 million KWh per year which will be sold to the EDL.
