ABB to automate 225 megawatt combined cycle power plant in Myanmar

ABB to automate 225 megawatt combined cycle power plant in Myanmar

ABB recently won an order from Singapore-based Jurong Engineering Limited
(JEL) to supply a Symphony Plus total plant automation system for one of the
largest combined cycle power plants in Myanmar, located in the Myingyan
district of the Mandalay division in central Myanmar.

The Symphony Plus system will control and monitor the entire power plant,
including the turbine, heat recovery steam generator and its auxiliaries,
and balance-of-plant. The system will be equipped with the latest generation
of SD Series flexible control and I/O modules, a field-proven technology
featuring scalable and flexible design. It also provides performance
monitoring by combining intelligent data analysis with an innovative
calculation algorithm, using data generated from the plant.

Delivering the right amount of data for users while allowing for an equal
dose of experience and intuition is the hallmark of the Symphony Plus total
automation system, which helps customers maintain plant availability and
efficiency, and improves plant performance and profitability.

The facility is one of the largest combined cycle power plants in Myanmar,
and will be operated by Sembcorp Myingyan Power Company. It will supply
power to Electric Power Generation Enterprise (EPGE), formerly Myanmar
Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE), under a 22-year power purchase agreement.

Upon completion in 2018, the plant will provide 225 megawatts (MW) of
electricity to Myanmar, which is rapidly building up its power
infrastructure to meet increasing demand from its population of more than 54
million people.

ABB is recognized by the ARC Advisory Group as the global leader in
distributed control systems (DCS) and the number one supplier of DCS, and
Symphony Plus is the latest generation of ABB's highly successful Symphony
family of control systems. Since its launch in 2011, ABB Symphony Plus
automation has been installed globally in systems totaling more than 50
gigawatts (GW) of power capacity, meeting the needs of customers in power,
water and industrial sectors in all geographic markets.

ABB is a pioneering technology leader in electrification products, robotics
and motion, industrial automation and power grids, serving customers in
utilities, industry and transport & infrastructure globally. Continuing more
than a 125-year history of innovation, ABB today is writing the future of
industrial digitalization and driving the Energy and Fourth Industrial
Revolutions. ABB operates in more than 100 countries with about 135,000
employees.
