WWF and PT Arun NGL to develop geothermal project on Flores Island, Indonesia

WWF and PT Arun NGL to develop geothermal project on Flores Island,
Indonesia

Reported this morning from Indonesia, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
Indonesia, and Indonesia's largest liquefied natural gas producer PT Arun
NGL, announce plans for the joint development of a geothermal project on
Flores Island, in the province of East Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia.

"Recently, together with WWF and PT Arun, we have prepared a road map to
develop geothermal in Flores and it is just a matter of time before we
implement it," Head of Provincial Mining and Energy Office, Boni Marisin,
affirmed in an interview with ANTARA News.

With a row of volcanoes spreading from west to east of Flores, the island is
estimated to have large geothermal potential. There is currently some
geothermal development at Ulumbu and Mataloko in the western part of Flores.
Both sites have been appointed to PLN for development. The Ulumbu site with
a potential capaicty of 50 MW and the Mataloko site with a potential of 22.5
MW.

"Geothermal development in those two areas are expected to be connected to
East Nusa Tenggaras system by 2020," he stated, adding that in addition to
Flores, geothermal is also found in Atadei, Lembata district and Alor
district. The geothermal potential in Atadei has estimated reserves of 40 MW
on an area of more than 31,000 hectares, he revealed. "If the potential in
Atadei can be developed well, it will be able to supply electricity to the
vicinity of areas such as Adonara and Solor," he noted.
