Thailand: PEA improves power distribution system to Khao Lak

The Provincial Electricity Authority has Bt345 million to improve the system
for distributing power to tourist destination Khoa Lak in Phang Nga, a
senior PEA official said on Friday.

Phanumat Limsuwan, director of PEA Area 2 and overseeing the southern
provinces, said the new distribution system would be ready for use on April
1, in time for the hottest month of the year when the power usage by hotels
and resorts was expected to peak.

The improvement of power distribution to the popular tourist destination was
carried out in response to a request by Thawat Niranathawarodom, the
president of the Phang Nga Tourism Industrial Chamber.

In the request, Thawat said the destination had been suffering from power
shortages and interruptions.

Thawat said the accommodation capacity in the area had expanded from 11,000
rooms to 13,000 rooms and hotels and resorts there often suffered power
issues.
