Unit 1 of 321-MW geothermal project in Indonesia comes online

March 22 (Renewables Now) - The first unit of the 320.8-MW Sarulla
geothermal power plant in Indonesia's North Sumatra province has commenced
commercial operation.

The news was announced on Tuesday by Toshiba Corporation (TYO:6502) and
Ormat Technologies Inc (NYSE:ORA). The Japanese group supplied the
geothermal steam turbines and generators (STGs) for the 110-MW unit's flash
systems, while Ormat delivered the conceptual design of the Geothermal
Combined Cycle Unit (GCCU) power plant along with an Ormat Energy Converter
(OEC).

"We manufactured and delivered our equipment ahead of schedule, mainly due
to the improvements implemented across our entire value chain and to our
professional teams. We continue to share our expertise as work continues on
the second and third units of the Sarulla project that are expected to come
on line by 2017 and 2018, respectively," said Isaac Angel, Ormat's CEO.

In addition to providing equipment, Ormat is also one of the project's
sponsors with a stake of 12.75%. The rest of the owners are: Itochu Corp
(TYO:8001) with a 25% interest, Kyushu Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9508) with
25%, PT Medco Power Indonesia of Indonesia with 18.9975% and Inpex Corp
(TYO:1605) with 18.2525%.

Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co Ltd is the engineering, procurement
and construction (EPC) contractor for the project.
