Myanmar: UK Co to provide services for oil and gas sector

A UK company will help Myanmar develop its local marine, oil and natural gas
sector.

The British company, James Fisher and Sons Public Ltd Company had just
signed a memorandum of understanding with local firm Royal Marine Technology
Company Ltd on Monday at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon.

James Fisher and Sons will supply equipment for the construction of gas and
oil pipelines, container ships and even submarines.

It will also provide repair and maintenance services for oil and natural gas
extraction companies in the industry.

Royal Marine Technology's managing director U Myint Aung said the country
was expanding its offshore services soon so the collaboration with James
Fisher and Sons was timely.

"The UK company is working with us to settle here.

"We never had a large company offering such services here. When oil
extraction companies need help, they have to get the assistance from
overseas," he said.

U Myint Aung said the local oil and natural gas sector was growing and
creating more jobs and business opportunities.

Foreign companies with foresight, he said, would be interested to set up
shop in Myanmar.

Royal Marine Technology was founded 20 years ago, providing ship repairs. In
recent years, it expanded its operations to engineering services, offshore
oil and natural gas services and power plant construction.

James Fisher and Sons' CEO Nick Henry said the reason its company was doing
business in Myanmar was to assist the country's crude oil and natural gas
market development.

He said his company would also extend technological assistance to local
companies and share their expertise with engineers in Myanmar.
