Philippines: NGCP, First Balfour ink deal for P1.7-B transmission line
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) recently awarded to
First Balfour Inc. the contract to construct the P1.699-billion Hermosa-San
Jose 500-kilovolt transmission line project.
The contract, the first partnership between NGCP and First Balfour, involves
the construction of an additional network of transmission line towers in
Bulacan, Pampanga and Bataan as part of NGCP's Luzon 500kV backbone.
NGCP is undertaking a number of new backbone projects to assure the
long-term adequacy and reliability of connection between the NGCP grid and
power plants that will go online in the future.
The First Balfour contract for the Hermosa-San Jose 500-kV transmission line
project calls for the construction of 230 steel towers over an 83-kilometer
stretch between the New Hermosa 500-kV substation in Hermosa, Bataan; and
the San Jose substation in San Jose, Bulacan.
The Hermosa-San Jose project, which is targeted for completion within 18
months, aims to meet the transmission requirements of Metro Manila and
Central Luzon.
First Balfour, a Lopez Group company, is one of the country's leading
contractors in the power and energy construction market, wherein it has
built power plants, transmission lines, and substations around the country.
Over the past 48 years, it likewise has played a role in building other
infrastructures, such as roads, bridges, and expressways; along with
hospitals, schools, and industrial facilities.
