Malaysia's state-owned utility Sarawak Energy has awarded a contract to
General Electric (GE) and Sinohydro for the construction of the 400MW
combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) block at Tanjung Kidurong, Bintulu.

The contract has been signed with a consortium of four companies including
GE Power Solutions (Malaysia), GE (Switzerland), Sinohydro and Sinohydro
Corporation.

Construction on the RM1bn ($237.8m) project is scheduled to commence at the
end of November 2016 and is likely to be completed by the middle of 2019.

Planned to be built within the existing Tanjung Kidurong (Bintulu) power
station, the project will feature advanced gas turbine technology and more
efficient combined cycle gas turbines.

The turbines will replace the existing open cycle turbines at the Tanjung
Kidurong power station in Bintulu, Sarawak.

As part of the contract, GE will be the engineering procurement and
construction (EPC) contractor. The contract represents the main package of
six planned packages for the project.

In an effort to maximize local participation, Sarawak Energy plans to award
the remaining packages to local contractors.

Sarawak Energy group CEO Datuk Torstein Dale SjØtveit said: "The new and
advanced technology will generate electricity at a higher efficiency and
output, enabling us to meet growing demand of Sarawak's organic load."

Meanwhile, Sarawak Energy also signed an agreement for the proposed long
term service agreement (LTSA) to provide operation and maintenance (O&M)
services and support for the power plant over an 8-year period.

The LTSA involves training of O&M personnel, supply of major spares as well
as setting up a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS).

Dale SjØtveit added: "We will ensure that the plant will be effectively and
safely operated through the LTSA which is crucial for the long term
operational maintenance of the plant."
