Malaysia: Pairin says govt to improve electricity delivery on Sabah's east
coast
government has approved five projects in Sabah's east coast to accommodate
and support the electricity generation system, as well as improve the
quality of power delivery system in the area, says Sabah Infrastructure
Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
He said the federal government, via the Planing and Implementation of
Electricity Supply and Tariff Committee (JPPPET) Meeting chaired by Energy,
Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili in
August, had given its approval for implementation of the projects.
He said the projects were the 18 megawatt (MW) Melawa gas turbine transfer
project to Sabah's east coast projected to be completed in 2017/2018; a new
30MW power generation plant in Lahad Datu scheduled for completion in April
2018; and, a new 60MW power generation plant at the Palm Oil Industrial
Cluster in Sandakan which was expected to begin operations in April 2019.
"The two other projects are the 300MW combined gas power plant in the Palm
Oil Industrial Cluster in Sandakan which will come on stream in stages from
2018 to 2020/2021, and the renewable energy (RE) project with feed-in tariff
scheme from large-scale solar (LSS), biomass, mini hydro and geothermal
plants for the east coast of Sabah from 2012 to 2018," Pairin, who is also
deputy chief minister told the Sabah State Assembly.
He was replying to Datuk Au Kam Wah (BN-Elopura) who wanted to know the
status of the additional 330MW power generation plant for Sabah's east
coast.
