Philippines: PNOC-Renewables completes 3 solar rooftop installations at UP

THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL OIL COMPANY-RENEWABLES CORP. HAS FINISHED THREE
SOLAR ROOFTOP INSTALLATIONS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES-DILIMAN TO
PROMOTE RENEWABLE, CLEAN AND GREEN ENERGY SOURCES IN GOVERNMENT-RELATED
BUILDINGS.
The rooftop installations, with a total of 240 kilowatt-per hour (kWp), are
in the Melchor, Palma and Quezon Halls of UP-Diliman.
This is PNOC-RC's first project with a state university. The partnership,
inked in February last year, will run for 15 years.
"PNOC-RC is driven to make sure that we partner with government agencies who
are ready to support the advocacy, embrace the call for energy efficiency
and willing to do its share to go green! With PNOC RC we'll definitely make
it happen," PNOC-RC Officer-in-Charge (OIC)-president Pedro Lite said.
UP Diliman is an example that government agencies themselves are supporting
the renewable energy and energy efficiency programs of the government.
PNOC-Renewables also wants to build an 80-kWp solar rooftop project at the
Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).
The company has also installed solar projects at the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources Envi-Management Bureau, the Department of
Health, Department of Science and Technology, and the Philippine Heart
Center-Medical Arts Building.
In 2015, PNOC-RC stood by its mandate to be a part of electricity generation
when the Department of Justice (DOJ) said PNOC and its units were not
allowed to engage in power generation.
The firm insisted that it is their mandate to generate power from renewable
energy sources in off-grid areas. This is in line with the government's
policy to reduce fossil fuel dependence.
