Myanmar: MPs back Japanese power loan
Myanmar must seek not only new energy sources but also ways to produce more
electricity from existing power plants, said Upper House MP Myo Win for Mon
State constituency no.8.
The MP made the suggestion during a debate on a loan of 10.8 billion yen
(Ks131 billion) from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to
implement a project for all-round upgrading of hydroelectric power plants
across the country.
Five MPs supported the plan.
"Developing the economy in a quick and sustainable manner is not possible
without a reliable electric power. Our country will progress only if we
improve this sector. To do so we need to seek new sources and upgrade the
existing facilities for more electricity generation," said Myo Win.
