Philippines: Hedcor builds de-sander for Bukidnon hydroelectric power-plant
project

Aboitiz subsidiary Hedcor said it was constructing four de-sanders to remove
the sand from its river-water reservoir in its hydroelectric power-plant
project in
Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Hedcor said the de-sander is a component of a
typical run-of-river hydropower system. It is located after the intake weir,
where 'as the flow of water slows, sand and other particles settle into the
de-sander.'

'Water diverted to produce power goes back to Tagoloan River in a much
cleaner state. By the third quarter of 2017, Hedcor's Bukidnon project will
tap the rivers of Tanaon, Guihean and Amusig, enough to produce 360 GWh
[gigawatt hours] of clean and renewable energy every year for the Mindanao
grid,' it said.

The Hedcor's Manolo Fortich hydropower project is projected to churn out
68.8 megawatts (MW). Construction started last year and is expected to be
finished next year. In a first-quarter report, the Hedcor said it has
completed 42 percent of the first phase of the power-plant project and 21
percent of its second phase.

Hedcor said it had already completed 5 kilometers of a 14-km pipeline, and
had constructed 28 km of the 30-km access road.

The project would also involve an additional excavation of a head pond to
prevent erosion of the side slope and drilling works for the 6-km. tunnel
for water diversion.

Once completed, the power-plant facility would be composed of two cascading
plants, the first unit with a capacity of 43.4 MW and the second unit with
25.4 MW.
