Singapore awards LNG import licenses to Pavilion Gas and Shell

Singapore awards LNG import licenses to Pavilion Gas and Shell

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore has awarded Pavilion Gas and
Shell Eastern Trading licences to import the next tranche of LNG for
Singapore. The next tranche of imports is expected to commence from 2017 and
Pavilion Gas and Shell will each have exclusivity to market up to 1 Mt/year
of LNG or for 3 years, whichever is earlier. Interested gas buyers may
approach the appointed importers on their gas supply terms. The EMA plans to
allow other companies to import and sell non-term contracted LNG cargoes on
a case-by-case basis.

BG Singapore was the first company to import LNG in Singapore in 2008; the
company is allowed to supply up to 3 Mt/year of LNG or until 2023, whichever
is earlier. In 2015, Singapore imported 11.3 bcm of gas, including 2.7 bcm
as LNG (the remainder is imported through a gas pipeline from neighbouring
Malaysia); the bulk of the gas is used in power generation. Singapore plans
to raise LNG imports in the coming years, especially as of the early 2020s,
when the pipeline contracts with Malaysian and Indonesia will expire.
