Indonesia: Timika PLTMG Construction Starts in 2017

State-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) is committed to begin
construction of oil and gas power plant (PLTMG) in Timika, Papua, in early
2017.

Salmon Karet, PLN manager of Timika Area, on Monday, October 3, said that
the PLN has reached an agreement with Mimika administration to start the
construction of PLTMG Timika.

"Mimika administration shares the same commitment with the PLN: to begin
[construction] of PLTMG Timika in early 2017. We have agreed on the location
at Paumako Port," Salmon said, as quoted by Antara.

PLTMG Timika, with a capacity of 50 megawatts, is planned to be built in
phases. The first phase will see the PLTMG supplies 10 megawatts of
electricity to Timika City.

"The first phase next year, 10 megawatts should already be supplied to the
PLN. The remaining 40 megawatts will be done later," he said.

According to him, the PLTMG Timika construction is the key and strategic in
a bid to speed up economic development in Timika and its vicinity.

To date, PLN Timika branch still relies on diesel generators to supply
electricity to surrounding communities.
