Russian group raises voice on Vietnam halting Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant
project

After Vietnam issued a press communiqué on its halting of Ninh Thuan nuclear
power plant project, a representative from ROSATOM Group sent to Vietnam
News Agency representative agency in Moscow its official declaration about
the halt.

Accordingly, the group representative said that based on macroeconomic
conditions, the Government of Vietnam had decided to halt the Ninh Thuan
nuclear power plant project, to be carried out by the Russian Federation and
Japan, adding that the group respects the customer's decision, and will be
willing to help Vietnam in case its Government re-activates the national
nuclear power project.

The Russian Federation and Vietnam have set up a long-term bilateral
cooperation in the nuclear power industry. The Da Lat Nuclear Research
Institute will allow Vietnam to continue the development of nuclear
technology with the assistance from the Russian Federation, including the
building of essential infrastructure as a foundation for the development of
nuclear energy for the peaceful purposes of the nation.

The guideline of the building of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant project
was adopted by the Vietnamese National Assembly in 2009 with 2 expected
plants. Each plant has 2 groups of engines, for a capacity of 2,000 MW.
plant No. 1 was inaugurated in 2014 in Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam
district, with its first group of engines expected to be put into operation
in 2020.
