Toshiba wins supply contract for Indonesia's 90-MW Malea hydropower plant

Toshiba wins supply contract for Indonesia's 90-MW Malea hydropower plant

Indonesian utility PT Malea Energy has awarded a contract to the Toshiba
Group for the supply of generating equipment for the 90-MW Malea hydropower
plant in the South Sulawesi province.

The order includes two 45 MW turbines and associated equipment, according to
Toshiba, with installation scheduled to begin in 2018. The value of the
contract was not disclosed.

The Malea project is part of a program announced by Indonesian president
Joko Widodo last May which seeks to add a combined 35 GW of power to the
country's grids through hydroelectric power and other sources over the next
five years.

PT Malea Energy -- a subsidiary of distributor Kalla Group -- said it hopes
to have the plant on line by 2020.

Indonesia is particularly appealing for hydropower investments due to a
recently revised feed-in tariff system and the country's desire to cultivate
its renewable sector.
