Vestas nabs 180-MW Thai order from unnamed customer
Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) today said it
has secured an order from an unnamed customer in Thailand to provide 180 MW
of low-wind turbines.
Under the contract, the company will supply and install 60 pieces of its
V136-3.0 MW turbine. It expects to start delivering the machines late this
year, while the wind park is scheduled to become operational in the middle
of 2018. Vestas explained that, at the request of the customer, it is not
revealing its name or that of the project.
The turbines will have the highest towers in the Asia Pacific, with a hub
height of 157 metres (515 ft), the Danish manufacturer said. Siemens Gamesa
Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) recently announced it has installed the
tallest turbines in Asia at a 67.5-MW wind power plant in Thailand. They
have towers that are 153-metre tall and blades of 56 metres. The total
height of the Siemens Gamesa turbines is 210 metres.
The order includes a 15-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM4000) service
contract and Vestas' SCADA system for data-driven monitoring and preventive
maintenance.
Once the wind farm is completed, Vestas will have more than 300 MW of
installed capacity in Thailand.
