Philippines: Napocor energizes Catanduanes substation and transmission line

THE National Power Corp. (Napocor) on Friday energized the 32-kilometer, 69
kilovolt transmission line-Codon to Virac-and the 10 Mega Volt Amp (MVA)
Virac substation in Bato, Catanduanes.

In a ceremonial switch-on, the state-owned Napocor said the facilities were
expected to lower the incidence of
power outages, improve power quality, and reduce system losses of the
distribution utility in the province, First Catanduanes Electric
Cooperative.

Napocor President and Chief Executive Officer Pio Benavidez led the
groundbreaking ceremony of the 5 MVA Codon substation in San Andres. He said
securing a more dependable and resilient transmission line would support the
increasing power demand in the area.

"This will consequently heighten the province's economic activities and
rural tourism, thereby increasing productivity and uplifting the quality of
life of Filipinos, which are the primary goals of the Duterte
administration," Benavidez said.

Among Napocor's projects in the pipeline are the 16-km, 69 kV transmission
line-Virac-to-San Miguel-and a 5 MVA substation in the municipality of San
Miguel.

The San Miguel substation anticipates the future connection point for the
newly built Solong Diesel Power Plant of Sunwest Water and Electric Co. Inc.

The projects are part of the Energy Department's Missionary Electrification
Development Plan and form part of the proposed backbone transmission system
in Catanduanes to ensure more reliable electricity supply in the province,
especially in load centers in Virac and San Andres.

Napocor, which runs a small power plant in the Palumbanes Island, is
responsible for providing power and the associated delivery systems in areas
not connected to the main grid.
