Myanmar: Natural gas power plant in Thilawa SEZ to be completed in 2017-18
The natural gas power plant in Thilawa Special Industrial Zone will be
completed in 2017-2017, and it will be a 50 Megawatt power plant.
The plant will be built with a loan from Japanese International Cooperation
Agency (JICA) ODA and after completion, it will provide sufficient
electricity to industries in the zone.
According to the Ministry of Electricity and Power, there are priority
projects to be completed in 2017-2018. These are production electricity,
transmission, and controlling the power system. In order to provide adequate
amount of electricity to the entire Myanmar, government is encouraging the
production of electricity from hydro, natural gas and diesel power but also
from renewable energy such as solar and wind power.
The Ministry is also working on the construction of upper Namt Htwan hydel
power project in Puta O in Kachin State in 2017-2018. Moreover, the Ministry
is also working on the production of full electricity from already built
power plants and plans are on the way to transmit electricity to regions
where electricity does not reach.
