Myanmar: Govt targets illegal electricity users
There were 28 cases of illegal use of electricity in February and March this
year with Nay Pyi Taw suffering the greatest loss, according to the Ministry
of Electricity and Energy.
The Electric Power Supply Enterprise is building more electric power plants
in both rural and urban areas to meet the increased demand. Meanwhile,
monitoring has exposed widespread illegal use.
In February and March, the authorities said they performed almost 60,000
checks.
Around 117,500 electrical units worth approximately Ks15 million were stolen
with Nay Pyi Taw suffering the greatest loss, officials told a press
conference.
In January, 46 cases were reported nationwide with a loss of over Ks64
million.
