Indonesia: President calls for improvement in sustainable energy

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) here on Tuesday stated that the government
will support the construction of power plants generating energy from
sustainable resources such as solar, wind, and water.

"Oil and coal are non-renewable sources of energy that could run out in the
future. Therefore, we should find some alternatives other than the existing
resources," Jokowi stated while launching electricity projects in Papua
Provinces capital city, Jayapura.

As a tropical country, Indonesia has abundant resources of solar energy that
can be optimized in the forthcoming electricity projects, the president
reiterated.

Jokowi further noted that following todays launch, the government will
develop more sustainable power plants which no longer use oil and coal.

Therefore, he has assigned the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry to

"This project, which is scheduled to be complete in 2019, will cover some
600 villages," Jokowi noted.
