Indonesia: PLN, Siemens to Build Mobile Power Plants
State-owned electricity company PLN has joined hands with German-based
Siemens to build mobile power plants using oil or gas as the main fuel. "The
total capacity would be 500 megawatts," PLN procurement director Supangkat
Iwan Santoso said yesterday, May 4, at the Energy Forum Indonesia 2017.
Supangkat explained that mobile power plants will be built in 14 locations
across the country. "In Java and eastern Indonesia. Mostly in eastern
Indonesia," he added.
The company expects that the project will be completed and operated by 2019.
The project will cost around Rp5-7 trillion, which will be borne entirely by
Siemens. Aside from providing machinery and funds, the company will also be
responsible for the operation of the mobile power plants.
The project is part of cooperation between the Indonesian and German
governments.
The two countries also cooperate in knowledge transfer. Siemens will be
tasked with establishing strategic cooperation with Indonesian industries.
Indonesian firms will serve as the engineering, procurement, and
construction (EPC) contractors. So far, Siemens has partnered with PLN's
subsidiary PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali.
Supangkat said that more companies, both SOEs and private firms, will be
involved in the project.
