GE announces decentralized energy projects at POWER-GEN Asia

GE announces decentralized energy projects at POWER-GEN Asia

GE's Distributed Power business has announced two major Asian projects at
this week's POWER-GEN Asia event in Seoul, South Korea.

The firm said it is to supply 17 emergency diesel genset packages, featuring
its 616 engine (pictured), to Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas for use
in a soon-to-be-completed refinery and petrochemical plant in Johor.

GE said it will also supply five transportable switch rooms and the
electrical balance of plant. The gensets will be switched on to provide
continuous power if the complex experiences an unexpected power shutdown.

In addition, the company's Power Services business said it had completed its
first fast stator rewind project in Thailand. The upgrade and life extension
project for power and steam distribution firm Sahacogen's gas-fired combined
heat and power (CHP) plant in Chonburi province took 17 days to complete, GE
said.

The project entailed upgrading the generator's stator bars, stator wedges
and reused existing components. GE said it also installed a stator winding
insulation system that included upgrades to restore operational reliability
and extend the generator's life for 20 years.

'We are very pleased to work with GE to help us successfully complete our
generator stator rewind project so quickly, which allowed us to reduce the
length of our maintenance outage and return the generator to service as
quickly as possible,' said Thanawat Siwasoponpong, cogeneration power plant
division manager at Sahacogen. 'With this project, we will enhance the
long-term availability of our cogeneration plant and meet Thailand's urgent
energy supply needs.'
