Indonesia: Supreme Energy planning with 2nd phase of Muara Laboh project in
West Sumatra
Having started work on the 80 MW first phase development of the Muara Laboh
geothermal project in West Sumatra, the consortium around Supreme Energy is
now planning with the second phase of the project.
Reported today from West Sumatra, the consortium PT Supreme Energy Muara
Laboh (SEML) is now planning the development of the second phase of the
Muara Laboh geothermal power plant.
With an initially planned full capacity of 220 MW, but lower than expected
steam produced by the wells, the overall planned plant size lies now at
around 140 MW.
Development is planned to start as soon as the first phase with a capacity
of 80 MW is completed. The Muara Laboh geothermal proejct is located in
South Solok, West Sumatra.
Unit 1 of the Muara Laboh geothermal plant is expected to start commercial
operation in August 2019. After this, drilling for the second phase
extension can begin.
It is reported that the consortium has so far spent around $150 million and
drilling in the working area of Muara Laboh, which started last month, will
last for 30 months. The project is jointly developed by French company Engie
and Japanese Sumitomo, as we reported before.
The project was awarded through a tender to the consortium in 2010.
