Philippines: Panay's 1st solar plant opens
The first solar power plant of Panay Island opened in Miag-ao, a town in
southern Iloilo province.
Rodolfo Golez Jr., CSEI chief executive officer, said the 15-hectare solar
power plant can generate 5.67 megawatts (MW).
Miag-ao Mayor Macario Napulan earlier noted that the 15-hectare site at
Narat-an village is open for expansion as CSEI has a 25-year contract with
Department of Energy (DOE).
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. welcomed this renewable energy project,
which is seen as an alternative power source and can augment existing energy
sources.
Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC), a subsidiary of A Brown Company, is
scheduled to inaugurate its 135-MW coal-fired power plant in Concepcion town
on September 30.
However, Defensor said it may be rescheduled as President Rodrigo Duterte is
not available. Duterte is invited to inaugurate PCPC.
