Bualuang water handling upgrade lifts oil production offshore Thailand

Ophir Energy has re-started production at the Bualuang oil field in the Gulf
of Thailand after completing final tie-in work for a water debottlenecking
project.

The five-month facilities upgrade program involved more than 100,000
man-hours of work offshore by local contractor Unithai, with the
accommodation barge Posh Bawean hosting more than 200 personnel.

Ophir adds that the sub-surface part of the project concluded at the end of
last year with drilling of a new water disposal well and the workover of the
existing water disposal wells.

The project has increased the design capacity of the water handling and
disposal system from 50,000 b/d to 75,000 b/d.

Currently production is ramping up as the new system is brought onstream and
tested. On Sunday the Bualuang field was producing 9,700 b/d of oil at a
water disposal rate of 64,000 b/d, an increase of 1,400 b/d of oil compared
to production in late August prior to commissioning of the new facilities.

Capex for the campaign was $20 million.
