Solar radiation data in Vietnam will be provided free of charge

Solar radiation data in Vietnam will be provided free of charge

On Sept. 20, 2017, in Hanoi, the World Bank (WB) and Electricity of Vietnam
(EVN) launched a campaign to promote the deployment of renewable energy by
the installation of five stations for measuring solar radiation across the
entire territory of Vietnam. These stations will collect solar radiation
data with a high quality, which help to improve accuracy of estimating solar
energy sources. The collected data will be free online provided to encourage
and support investors in developing the solar power projects in Vietnam.

The solar radiation measurement campaign is the next step after WB
announcing the new energy map for Vietnam which shows the average potential
of the solar energy resources at 1km-definition. The data and map can be
assessed through the Global Solar Atlas.

After 2 year measurement, the solar energy map of Vietnam will be fully
verified with an adequate quality to meet planning and exploration.

At the launching ceremony, Mr. Ousmane Dione, the WB Director in Vietnam
said that the production costs of solar electricity are falling around the
world and that Vietnam is making an important step in promoting a favorable
environment for speeding up development and production of clean energy.

WB will continue to support Vietnam to meet its growing electricity demand
with the sustainable solutions as developing renewable energy, energy saving
in industry and improving effectiveness of the power transmission and
distribution grids - Mr. Ousmane Dione emphasized.

The support of WB on measurement and making map of solar energy is a part of
the project supported by Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP)
which is currently implementing assessment, making maps for the small hydro,
biomass and wind power potentials.

The first measurement station announced on Sept. 20, 2017, sited on Binh
river, Bac Binh district, Binh Thuan province is a part of the WB
comprehensive support package for renewable energy including consulting
support for the large solar power projects which are looking for the
commercial funds.
